In Black & White photography, natural scenes are often the most difficult to present as they contain a preponderance of complementary colors(opposites on the color wheel, red/green,blue /orange). Without filtration or adjustment, these often appear as the same shade of grey. Scenes that have a lot of depth and texture in color, often appear flat and lack drama as a monchrome Image. In digital imaging, many of the adjustments can be made after capture rather than through the use of lens filters. The challenge becomes managing the photo development workflow to achieve images that maintain the grey midtones while enhancing the real world shadows and highlights.
