Trail : Lake Somerville State Park

Trail Rating : Good trail for length. Several long stretches of soft sand. A good run overall.

Description : Part of the Texas State Park System, the park is located adjacent to Lake Somerville. The facility supports multiple uses : equestrian, camping, fishing hiking, etc. As such, it has numerous facilities.

Length : 13 Miles- Somerville Trailway, multiple additional loop hiking trails add 4-6 more miles of trails.

Footing : From the Nail Creek Unit, there is about 1 mile of soft sand in the first two miles, the remainder of the trail is a mix of packed sand/soil and some loose rock. In general the footing is good. The soft sand areas are not a real problem for runners, however, mountain bikes have a difficult time.

Terrain Profile : Rolling, no rise is more than 50-80'

Water Availability : Carry it. Available at camp ground.

Access : Parking at Campground or in day visitor area.

Other Users : Bikers, horses but saw none.

Driving Directions : Houston - US 290 west to Burton(go thru Brenham) exit at Spur 125, follow 125 and turn left on FM 1697, follow 1697 to FM 180 and turn right, this will take you to the park entrance.

Austin - Take US 290 west to about 6 miles east of Giggings, turn left on FM 180 follow to park.

Waco - US 77 south to Giddings, left on E Boundry St then left on FM 141, Right on FM1697, then left on FM 180 to park.
